Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs in the pressure cooker is the easiest recipe you will find for perfect pressure cooker hard boiled eggs. My proprietary set it and forget method has gone viral.

Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs

Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs

Forget the 6-6-6 method. Forget the 5-6-6 method. Forget the 5-5-5 method and all those crazy silly other numbers you might have to remember.

I don’t know about you, but I sure don’t want to stand at attention in front of my Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi or Pressure Cooker and wait for Eggs to finish cooking and then have to plunge them into an ice bath to prevent the yolks from becoming green. If I wanted to do that, I’d use my stove.

I want my Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi or Ninja Foodi to save me trouble and extra steps. My recipe has hit the pressure community by storm and it is so reliable, everyone is recommending this method.

Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs make perfect keto and low carb snacks, so keep some on hand.

We love Pressure Cooker Easy Hard Boiled Eggs in this house and I usually make a dozen at a time. Feel free to make more than 12 or less than 12.

If you love potato salad, another recipe you will love is my Instant Pot Potato Salad [Summer Picnic]. The eggs and potatoes cook at the same time!

Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs make yummy snacks and my favorite snack is an egg with my yummy homemade house seasoning.

I used to use plain salt, but one day, while standing over the sink to eat my egg, I grabbed my homemade house seasoning instead. It was so yum. I love the slight sweetness and the tiny burst of celery seed.

This Steamer/Strainer Basket is perfect for using to make Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs.

But, hold on a second….I am going to show you another method, before continuing on……just in case. You never know.

Here is another method to cook Eggs for Hard Boiled.

Check out this really cool method to make a Pressure Cooker Hard Boiled Egg Loaf. It is all the rage now. Try this method with my delicious Pressure Cooker Low Carb Deviled Egg Salad Roll Ups recipe.

Another fun way to cook eggs is using my Instant Pot No Peel Hard Boiled Eggs method. The peeled hard cooked eggs are great to pack in kids lunch boxes and make great snacks to bring to work. Perfectly shaped eggs without any peeling.

But, please continue with this method, as it is fabulous and great for using Eggs for snacks (then check out those other two methods).

How Many Eggs Can I Cook?

  • As many as you can fit into the Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi or Pressure Cooker.

The beauty of this recipe is that you don’t have to watch timers and you can walk away.

I don’t mean the next day…… within reason, like after the pressure releases on its own ………..

Can Instant Pot hard Boiled Eggs Be Eaten Warm?

  • Yes they can.
  • They are quite tasty when warm.
  • I suggest peeling the eggs while running them under cool water, so you don’t burn your fingers.

If I want to make fewer eggs, how much would I decrease the water, if at all? Thanks.

Don’t decrease the water, it just helps the IP come up to pressure.
These eggs come out of their shells in just a couple pieces, silky smooth, pure white, with silky textured yellow yolk, NO GREEN! Finally, I have found the recipe I needed. Thanks

I ordered the steamer basket linked here, only to discover it now comes with handles attached. With the handles, the steamer basket exceeds the diameter of the Instant Pot. My question is, can you recommend another steamer basket that works well in the Instant Pot, or have you discovered a way to remove the handles?

      Hi Kelly~

The steamer basket has always come with handles. Just pop them off with a pliers or your hands. Jill

I ENCOUNTERED THE SAME THING. I TOOK THE BASKET TO A LOCAL MACHINE SHOP TO HAVE THE HANDLES REMOVED. THE MATERIAL IT’S MADE FROM IS A HARDENED STAINLESS STEEL THAT WILL NOT BEND WITHOUT DESTROYING THE BASKET. I RUINED A NEW DRILL BIT TRYING TO DRILL THROUGH THE WELD THAT ONLY BURNED OUT THE BIT.

My husband bent them off using his hands. Took him all of 1 minute to do 😉

I managed to bend off the handles also, using a pair of pliers to grasp each handle. For each handle one side broke right away, the other took a little coaxing but was off within minutes. I’m not particularly strong, so maybe it isn’t too hard…

The recipe works well except if you do stupid things like leaving the pressure valve on vent, and forgetting to go back and check on the eggs. Second time I followed instructions better.

Hi Meta. Glad you like the basket. 🙂 Recipes do tend to work better when you follow the instructions. Hehehehe. Jill

I’m really new to pressure cooking — have only used my Instant Pot once before, so my question is probably about something that would be obvious to most readers. But anyway, do I wait 15 minutes after the 2-minute cook time, or is it 15 minutes after completion of NPR? (And, by the way, I couldn’t see when I used it before how one could tell when NPR is entirely finished.)

Hi Jill and readers, just wanted to share that I used the Manual setting for 2 minutes and let it NPR like Jill said but let time slip by and left it for 24 min rather than 15 min and I had a hint of the dreaded grey/green ring. Everything else was perfect and they peeled easily with a knock on the sink and a small pinch to get the peel started. Still delicious but it’s probably best to pay closer attention to the NPR time and stick to 15 min or you’ll get rings. 🙁

Jill, I’ve struggled with making hard boiled eggs forever… either green or they wouldn’t peel or something. I tried this method finally and they were PERFECTION! The shells slipped off so easily and not a smidge of green to be seen. And the only way they could have been easier would be if I’d bought one of those plastic bags of peeled HB eggs at the store. Thank you!

Thank you so much! I just boiled 9 eggs and they came out perfectly! Defintely going to use this method this year for Easter. So much easier to walk away and come back 15 min later than just stand in the kitchen watching and waiting.

Hi Jill! I have two questions. Do you leave the IP in “Keep Warm” during NPR or turn it off? And, if I want a softer boiled egg (not a completely soft or hard yolk), would reducing to cook for 1 minute HP and then NPR achieve that?

After your eggs cook for 2 minutes, do you turn off your instant pot and then let the pressure naturally release? Or do I just need to let it stay on? Thank you!

I have a really stupid question. How do you peel your eggs? In the past, I’ve done a slight tap then rolled the eggs. But I don’t know how to get the eggshells to pop off in only a couple of pieces?

If you’re using farm fresh eggs (which I love) I put them in a drinking glass, one at time, and shake it. The shells come off nicely.

So you have to wait 15 minutes before you can have your breakfast? I bring my eggs to a boil, then cover and turn off and wait 15 minutes, so it’s the same amount of time. ??

I left the Natural release for about 30 minutes (till I could get back to them) and they were definitely overcooked – green rings :(.

At 15′ they were perfect for deviled eggs! May I suggest you alter the wording to your recipe? They are fantastic at 15′ but coming back “whenever” may lead to over cooked eggs…..
