New 3-qt worked great! Followed directions. Used dishcloth to remove hot eggs and place in plastic bowl. Held lid on and gave it a good shake. Almost all the shell came off. Easily remove the few small bits remaining. Salt & pepper and my two eggs were perfect!
Jill Selkowitz says
Thank you, Perrie. So glad my recipe worked so well for you. Jill

Jill, great recipe, i used Salbree steamer basket and did 12 eggs the first time and put them as you describe, layering and released after 8 minutes. I has some eggs that had a yokes with a grey layer, thinking that the time was too long, I did the same and released after 7 minutes, same result, some had grey rings. So my next time I decided to stand the eggs on the fat end in the basket, 12 eggs fit perfect with no layering and did the 2 & 7, no grey layer on any of the eggs. Each time I use exactly the same eggs, Hickman Jumbo eggs, so i expect that maybe some of the eggs previously were getting a higher temp cook or exposure to heat. Let me know your thoughts, I have pictures.

This recipe has changed my hard-boiled life. I struggled with hard-boiled eggs and was never consistently successful. I tried this recipe and it worked like a champ. They come out perfect every single time and they’re so easy to peel it’s unbelievable. It doesn’t matter if you have one egg in there or 18 or 20 the Time is the same and the results are the same. Thank you very much. I’ve seen a bunch of other recipes out there and they all seem like some kind of voodoo magic this one seem very simple and easy and it’s the first one I tried and I’m so glad that I did.

I have chickens so always lots of eggs, looking forward to trying this, thank you.
James Cooper says
You are basically right, and it is more or less what I do. But if you see that green line between the white and the yolk, the eggs are overcooked. Reduce the time slightly.
Lynda says
I’m going to try this. I’ve been using the 5-5-5 method and always get some cracked and inconsistent results. This sounds so easy. Question: can the eggs be piled on top of each other or should they not touch each other? They look stacked in the picture. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this! I was looking for a simple set and walk away recipe for hard boiled eggs and you explained it so well. Thanks so much again

I experimented with timing. With my Duo60, 2 minutes high and 7 minutes NR produces a great hard boiled egg without a green ring around the yolk and a tender white. I suspect every instant pot heats differently. I make 1 dozen hard boiled eggs every week and they rarely crack and peel very easily.
Sue says
I get so frustrated about all the methods on the sites and then the whose method is better, and oh no it didn’t work this time. I was going to stick to the stovetop method. I happened to find a silicone egg trivet and my husband loves egg salad so I tried this no nonsense approach. 2 min on high pressure. Natural release for a total of 16 or 17 minutes. No ice bath. Perfect peel. Soft white and yoke – fully cooked just not rubbery and no green ring. I can’t wait to try more of your recipes Thank you
Jill says
Thank you, Sue. Jill

I thought recipe says 2 minutes low pressure 12-15 NR. Is high? I guess I’ll know soon.

These were awesome as always. I always chuckle when I hear the other methods recommended, then I send them here. I made 18 eggs, turned 10 into deviled eggs and all 18 were gone in 30 minutes. Thanks again!
Jill says
Thanks, Christina…as do I. Why make it a drawn out process when this is so easy? Jill
