This Old Gal Seasoned Salt {House Seasoning} is an all purpose seasoning. Use in any recipe calling for Lawry’s Seasoned Salt or house seasoning.

This Old Gal Seasoned Salt {House Seasoning}

Lawry’s Seasoned Salt was created in 1938 to season prime ribs of beef served at the world-famous Lawry’s The Prime Rib restaurant, in Beverly Hills, CA. It’s a fun place to eat and we go there a couple times a year.

I love the ambiance and it reminds me of Old Hollywood. Your waiter brings over a huge silver serving station and carves the roast prime rib right at your table. Then they bring you delicious side dishes of creamed spinach, corn, mashed potatoes, the good stuff!

This Lawry’s Seasoned Salt Copycat Recipe inspired my This Old Gal Seasoned Salt recipe.

Cast of Ingredients or This Old Gal Seasoned Salt

Cast of Ingredients or This Old Gal Seasoned Salt

You can use either use a ground celery seed/salt mixture to equal one Tablespoon or just us a Tablespoon of celery salt.

For my recipe, I add a little extra celery seed.

We use the seasoned salt all the time and keep it right by the stove in our Alton Brown Salt Cellar.

Do you use celery seed, or ground celery seed?
    Can’t wait to try this!

I like your site and the roast beef recipe. I am finding, however, that it is difficult to load your pages on my iPad, there are too many large photos that need to load up and my ipad often hiccups while loading more difficult. Smaller photos please. otherwise I
    go onto the next side….

Love this seasoning- used it on the Rotisserie Chicken which was also great and worked well in the Air Fryer. Meat was tender and juicy and not dried out. Thank you!

Sounds delightful! And those panicking about the sugar…it is about 1/3rd of the entire recipe. You sprinkle it on your food, so really should be less than 1/4 tsp serving…it will not be enough sugar to budge your blood sugar. If it worries you use your fave alternative sweetener..or 1/2 and half sugar/sweetener.
    Loving all you recipes Jill!

I’m just curious about the corn starch? Why is it added? Does it add flavor?

Hi Jill. I am interested in your recipe, but I can’t have celery salt or celery seed, not celery powder either. Is there anything I can substitute for the celery stuff? Thanks!

I’m pre-diabetic so I avoid sugar. Will omitting the sugar change the flavoring? If so, what would you recommend as a substitute?

I have the same concerns as some have stated here about the sugar and cornstarch ingredients so I’m going to play around with a combo of xylitol and cocoanut sugar for the sugar (I dislike stevia) and arrowroot or gluccie for the cornstarch. If you try the same sort of substitutions, could you report your findings here and I’ll do the same.

If you have pets PLEASE be aware that xylitol, even in small doses, can kill a dog. I have this information in a veterinary article from my vet. 1-1/2 to 2 sticks of xylitol sweetened gum has killed a 10lb. dog. I, personally, love xylitol but am very wary of using it in cooking because sometimes we allow our dogs to have a little leftovers.

Thanks for the updated recipe and for posting it. Lawry’s is loaded with MSG and will put my butt into the hospital – that is why I stopped using it years ago – but this I can and will use.

they say no MSG but there is something else included which is like MSG. I don’t have a bottle handy to tell you what it is, but I stopped buying it once I knew this.

Lots of commenters are concerned with the sugar amount. You can play around with her recipe, add half the amount or none at all and see what the difference is 🙂 That’s why I love cooking and baking, it’s all science not something set in stone 😀

I want to use this on a roasted chicken (TOG recipe for AF) but do not have celery salt. I am wondering if I could use something else (adobo?) or if that would change the flavor too much. Thank you in advance.

I’m doing whole30 and can’t have sugar or cornstarch. Do you have any idea if Arrowroot can be used instead of the cornstarch? And can the sugar be left out or would it just not be good without it?

After coming back from a trip to Ireland, I observed recipes on Facebook and see sugar is in Everything! I want less sugar now too. Suppose I could try this without any. The other ingredients are wonderful.

Why not use Stevia powder? I use Stevia all the time to replace sugar, including using liquid Stevia extract in my coffee.

Is the sugar necessary? Trying to limit my sugar intake. I understand it’s just a little per serving, but wonder if you’ve ever tried it without and if it makes a difference?

      Hi Aimee~

You sure can use Lawry’s if you like. Add a touch more celery seed, if you have it in the house. Mine is a bit different and I think better, but that is my opinion. I love my seasoned salt on hard boiled eggs too.

Seasoned salt is salt with other seasonings. Salt is the main ingredient.

Hi Jill, according to the ingredient list there is twice as much sugar as salt. Did you perhaps mean 4 teaspoons?
