This Homemade Shake ‘N Bake Coating Mix is fresher and healthier than buying a box full of added stabilizers and preservatives.

Homemade Shake ‘N Bake Coating Mix

During my college years, I went on a Shake ‘N Bake Pork Chop kick. Several nights a week, I would prepare Pork Chops, a baked potato and broccoli with cheese sauce. I also used the same Shake ‘N Bake mix for coating chicken. Somehow to my taste buds, I thought the Shake ‘N Bake for Pork Chops Recipe tasted better than the Shake ‘N Bake Recipe for Chicken. It was somehow milkier or creamy to the mouth. Maybe it was in my head, I don’t know.

Cast of Ingredients for Homemade Shake ‘N Bake Coating Mix

Recently, in going through my enormous file of recipes from way back, I found my typed Homemade Shake ‘N Bake Coating Mix. I don’t recall from where it came, but my notes show that in my recipe, I have added more Corn Flakes, which makes sense. Corn Flakes have a rich, milky taste to me. My dad used to smash up Corn Flakes and coat chicken parts and bake. I remember the coating that stuck to the foil lined pan, tasted creamy and yummy. That was the best part!

The ingredients are few and you probably already have most of them in your pantry. This Homemade Shake ‘N Bake Coating Mix recipe makes the amount of about one box of the brand name stuff, at a fraction of the cost.

Add all Ingredients to a Ziploc Baggie

Add all the ingredients to a Ziploc Freezer Bag and make sure it is sealed. I find the Freezer Bag, much more study than sandwich bags.

Use a Rolling Pin to Smash Ingredients

Take any Rolling Pin and run it over the bag, over and over again, until fine to medium course crumbs are achieved.

Chances are that there are little pin holes in the baggie, so if you are not using all the mixture right away, place the unused portion into an air tight container or Mason Jar.

can this be stored in a freezer bag in the freezer?
I usually shake in a freezer bag because the ones that come in the box are too small =and then I store the left over in the freezer
    Can’t wait to try this {I probably will like it but I don’t know about hubby–you know how picky they can be}

    HA HA
    thanks

Now this is strange. I just bought shaken bake today at the store. So now I will use it up and make my own. I don’t have the corn flakes so I can get them next weed or so. It is more or less the same I use for fried chicken excepte for the corn flakes.
Thank you for all you do.

Do I measure out 3/4 cup of corn flakes and then smash them or is it 3/4 cup post smash measurement?

    Hi Jill,
I was wondering if you had your new York cheesecake recipe available for a 9″ pan made in t h e oven?

I’m going to a family get together next Saturday and was asked to bring a cheesecake and chocolate cake for dessert. I don’t think the 6″ or 7″ sizes will be enough to feed up to 17 people if made in the pc.

Do you have any recipes available as to how to convert to a 9″ pan made in the oven?

Thank you so much! I love all your recipes!
