With this Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken recipe and method, you will enjoy a very juicy chicken with a flavorful crisp skin. Low carb and keto too!
So, I’m sure we have all had that delicious Rotisserie Chicken from Costco, right?
We spend hours going up and down every aisle. By the time we are finished shopping, we are exhausted. We have a big basket full of goodies.
The thought of coming home and putting away all those groceries (and other things that we probably did not need) and is overwhelming. The thought of then having to make dinner, makes things more overwhelming.
So, we run back to the back of the store and grab a Rotisserie Chicken, that we have been smelling since we first walked in to Costco.
With my Ultrean 8.5 Quart Air Fryer, an Air Fryer Oven or the Mealthy Crisplid, and this Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken recipe, you can easily make the same, delicious Rotisserie Style Chicken, any day of the week and have it ready in one hour.
Yep, one little hour, with minimal prep work.

Ingredients for Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken
For this demonstration, I used a 5.9 pound chicken and I stuffed it, as I wanted to see the time difference between a stuffed Air Fryer Chicken v. a non stuffed Air Fryer Chicken.
While it is delicious, stuffed, you will need to allow for an extra 20 minutes and will want to cover the chicken with foil for the first 30 minutes, so that the skin won’t get too dark. For a chicken over 5 pounds, I suggest using an Extra Large Air Fryer.
Since my Ultrean 8.5 Quart Air Fryer was not available, I used my small air fryer for this monster of a chicken. I had to shove it in, but it worked.
How to Make Stuffing for Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken
- For the stuffing, I just mixed up some bread I had dried.
- Added seasonings, some diced celery and onions and Homemade Pressure Cooker Chicken Stock.
If you are not making stuffing (and we usually don’t), just toss an cut onion into the cavity, if you like, although, it is really not necessary.
As the chicken is cooking, you could always make a batch of my Instant Pot Stuffing to have on the side.
I like to put my chicken into a mixing bowl, since the chicken is so slippery and can get away from me. Plus, it keeps the counter very neat.
Make sure to remove the giblet package that is inside of the chicken and then pat it dry with a paper towel.
Before I seasoned the chicken, I stuffed it, but I doubt I will do this again, as I prefer the taste of a non-stuffed chicken.
What Type of Oil to Use?
- It is important to use a “high heat” oil, so that the chicken and skin does not burn.
- Ghee is great for using with higher temperatures for longer cook times. My Instant Pot Ghee recipe is very easy to make and I always have a jar available.
- Coconut oil is very good too, as it won’t burn at this temperature, with the chicken so close to the heating element.
Make sure to rub every inch of the chicken.
I love a very heavily seasoned chicken and I use my own Seasoned Salt recipe.
You can use whatever seasoning you like.
Season the entire chicken very well.
A larger air fryer like the Ultrean 8.5 Quart Air Fryer or the Ultrean 8.5 Quart Air Fryer Toaster Oven is the way to go to make the best Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken.
The Mealthy Crisplid accessory can also be used after setting up your Instant Pot, Ninja Foodi or Pressure Cooker as an air fryer.
If using a smaller air fryer, just push down on the chicken to break the bone a little, so that it will fit.
After 30 minutes, flip the chicken over. Look how delicious the underside looks already. Your kitchen will smell wonderful!
Flip over the chicken and cook the chicken for another 30 minutes.
If using the Air Fryer Oven, use the rotisserie basket and the roast setting.
Make sure you test the internal temperature with a Digital Meat Thermometer. The temperature should be 165 degrees.
The chicken skin crackles and is so wonderful.
Serve the chicken with Creamy Mashed Potatoes or Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes and a green vegetable.

My chicken is 3.5 lbs. Any idea what temperature and time to start that Bird? I have a large cooks essential air fryer. Thanks

I made this recipe tonight with my new instant pot air fryer lid. My chicken was a bit over 5 pounds so I did 35 minutes on each side. I used avocado oil, seasoned salt and pepper and placed the chicken on the rack that came with my instant pot. It was well browned, crispy skin and oh so juicy!! Thanks for a fantastic recipe!

Just joined your blog love watching you do your magic in your af. My question is when cooking chicken do you have to use oil? I read a recipe that the chicken skin had enough grease in them that there was no need to spritz. What do you think? I also just got a power af oven it has 3 racks. No book or fryer basket. Could you let me know what pans and other things ill need an where to get them. Thank you so much Reva

I got an air fryer over that rotates the chicken. Got it for Christmas so is my first time doing a whole chicken. The bad boy I got is 5.89 lbs. Is this gonna cook all the way through, or do you suggest I go longer than the ‘extra’ 10 minutes?
Chicken in the air dryer is one thing I’m finicky about because chicken has to be cooked through and I’m still fairly new with temperature settings on an air fryer as it cooks differently than the oven.
Jill Selkowitz says
You can always cook the chicken longer. Jill

Jill, if I am using the Mealthy lid do I put the lid on the last 10 min of the total cook time to crisp up the skin ??? Or when would you recommend ?
Susan says
Hi Jill, I just made the recipe in my 5.8 quart Cosori air fryer, and it was PERFECTION!!! Plus, we made chicken salad the next day with the leftovers- just terrific!! Thank you for sharing!!

The title of the recipe is Air Fryer ROTISSERIE Chicken – yet the directions have you put it in a pan – THAT’S NOT ROTISSERIE. Won’t be using this recipe, it’s misleading from the get-go!
Jill Selkowitz says
Just like any air fryer recipe, the food is not actually deep fried in oil. It is food cooked in an air fryer which tastes like other methods, like rotisserie. It tastes like a rotisserie chicken but cooked in an air fryer, hence the name AIR FRYER rotisserie chicken.

Going to use this recipe SPECIFICALLY because you called this person on their bologna, and it was amazing. Rock on, Jill. Rock on.
Jill Selkowitz says
Gosh, I forgot I did that as that is not something I generally do. I must have been in a frisky mood. Hehehe. Jill

They don’t know what they are missing. This is my favorite air fryer recipe and it’s better than rotisserie chicken on a spit. So juicy and delicious. I’m cooking one for my neighbor as I type and my kitchen smells so GOOD: thank you for this wonderful recipe ❤️

1st time I visited ur site. I stuffed a 6lb chicken with just poultry seasoning as spices. Your recipe was so easy to follow. Just finished the best chicken I’ve had in ages. 1st major meal I made in my fryer and won’t be my last. Thank you so much for such a delicious recipe !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jill Selkowitz says
Hi Richard. Thank you so much for using my recipe and taking the time to leave such a nice comment. Welcome! Jill

This was really good. My chicken was 3.75 lbs. and cooked it 30 min. Each side and it was perfect. I used Montreal Chicken Seasoning. The only thing is the chicken was $7, so that’s more than you pay for one at Sam’s or Costco already cooked. I’ll watch for a sale.
Lorraine Modzelewski says
I cooked one in the new GoWise Air Fryer and my son did one in an older GoWise Air Fryer. Both were outstanding. It’s a recipe I would definitely recommend to others.
Jill Selkowitz says
Thank you, Lorraine. I am glad you enjoyed the chicken, both of you! Jill
Amanda says
Did you use the new 5.3 model? That’s the one I’m looking into!
Wayne Lind says
We made your whole chicken in the air fryer. So good. We did two one for our spoiled little dog and it was so good we did one for use. So fast and so good. Thank you. The only spice we used was Johnny’s seasoned Salt.

I chicken was pink inside after well over a total of an hour. Any idea why ?

Hi Jennifer. That means it was not cooked enough. I assume you continued cooking until is was perfect. Jill

Hi, Jill
I am not sure if you do videos since it is my 1st time on your website/blog. But it would help those who are more visual since sometimes looking at photos or reading doesn’t help as much sometimes. sometimes i tend to miss when i read and do it at same time. but i am thinking of trying this since i like Costco’s rotisserie chicken. I am just wondering if it will be taste similar?
