Pressure Cooker Chinese Take-Out Spicy Orange Beef & Rice is a one pot Asian dish. The rice cooks at the same time as the beef in the same pot.
Fresh, spicy and citrusy is the flavor of this Pressure Cooker Chinese Take-Out Spicy Orange Beef dish. Why bring in Chinese Food, when you can so easily make your own at home?
For that matter, how about an appetizer of Pressure Cooker Simple Sesame Noodles or Pressure Cooker P.F. Chang’s Garlic Noodles to go with this meal?
Flank Steak, Chuck Roast, Flat Iron Steak, all work well for this recipe. You don’t want to use too lean of a piece of meat because lean meat, does not do well under pressure. If you only have lean meat, you can still do this recipe, just don’t Pressure Cook it, as it will be done after sautéing the meat and adding the sauce.
Even though this dish is spicy, the freshly squeezed orange juice compliments the heat and calms it down. Sweet/Black Soy Sauce adds a touch of sweetness. You can find it at most Asian Markets.
A good Pressure Cooker Chinese Take-Out Spicy Orange Beef recipe should include the Chinese Five Spice and the Sweet/Black Soy Sauce and not be filled with sugar.
Turn this Pressure Cooker Chinese Take-Out Spicy Orange Beef recipe into a one pot meal!
You will just need these two accessories. One stainless steel flat bottomed insert pan or stainless steel flat bottomed insert pan and a Stainless Steel Tall Legged Trivet/Steamer Rack.
Slice the meat about 1/4 inch thick. Pork and chicken work in this recipe too. If you use slices of chicken, cut the cook time by 2 minutes.
Whisk up the marinade ingredients into a medium bowl.
Add the Beef to your bowl with the marinade. Marinate the beef for at least 10 minutes for a nice flavor. If you want to buy a large piece of flank steak and divide it into a few meals, freeze it with the marinade.
Make a larger amount of the marinade and when you feel like One Pressure Cooker Chinese Take-Out Spicy Orange Beef, just pop a bag of the marinated beef from the freezer and start cooking.
Make sure to fully heat up your Pressure Cooker cooking pot before adding the oil. A very hot stainless steel pot with the fat added afterwards, makes stainless steel, non stick!
If using an Instant Pot or a GoWise 8 Quart Pressure Cooker, hit the Sauté button and then adjust to “More,” which is a higher heat. If using another brand, hit the Browning button.
You don’t need to sear beef in a Pressure Cooker, just get it a little browned.
Add in the orange juice and make sure you save 1/2 an orange for later. If you don’t have fresh oranges, frozen concentrate will work.
If you want more peppers, add them in now. Two peppers give a mild heat, four peppers give a medium heat and six or more will give you a spicier heat.
If you are making this a One Pot Meal using my Pressure Cooker Perfectly Cooked Pot In Pot Rice recipe, add your Tall Legged Trivet and Rice now.
You are ready to lock on the lid and cook your entire dinner in ONE pot at the same time!!!
Open the pot and remove the Pan of rice. Place the lid on top of the rice to allow it to continue to steam and finish the cooking process. While the rice is steaming, go on to the next step. Your rice will be perfectly cooked by the time the beef is ready.
I love to zest citrus, as it brightens up just about anything and a microplane makes it very easy. Make sure you don’t go to deep and scrape off the pith, as it’s quite bitter.
Fresh orange zest gives this Pressure Cooker Chinese Take-Out Spicy Orange Beef more of a fresh taste to this dish. You can even use a cheese grater for bigger, curly peels.
The sauce will be thin, so to thicken it, take a cup and remove some of the liquid.
Add your Potato Starch to the hot liquid and whisk it in until it is smooth. If you don’t have Potato Starch, corn starch is fine.
When I cook Asian style dishes, I prefer to use Potato Starch. Did you know that Japanese Fried Chicken is just pieces of chicken coated in Potato Starch and then deep fried? It’s really good.
After your sauce is nice and thick, add in the scallions and stir them into the sauce. I don’t like them to get cooked and wilted, so adding them now, will give you a slight crunch.
Remove the cooking pot from the Instant Pot or Pressure Cooker and squeeze an orange over the whole dish when you serve. Sprinkle the fresh zest on top.
Make it a Chinese Take-Out night and offer up some Chinese Take-out Beef and Broccoli, Orange Chicken and Fried Rice.
If you don’t want to cook your rice with the Chinese Take-Out Spicy Orange Beef, you can make it in a separate pot, using this recipe, Pressure Cooker White Rice. Alternatively, if you are cooking for a crowd and need a larger portion of rice, using the “Pot In Pot” method, try my Pressure Cooker Perfectly Cooked Pot In Pot Rice.
