Make Air Fryer Rib Eye Steak with Blue Cheese Butter with my perfected method for a melt in your mouth perfectly cooked rare steak. Low Carb and Keto with a Savory Blue Cheese Butter Fat Bomb!
I have perfected cooking steaks in the air fryer! Yep, cooked to perfection with my easy method every single time!
There is nothing better than a nice steak cooked over a charcoal grill, right! The smoky taste and the outdoors is such a treat. However, if done right, cooking a steak using the stove top/oven method is pretty tasty. In addition, with my method and an air fryer you can achieve the most delicious steak of your life.
A group of us went to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse last week and ordered rib eye’s and filet mignon. I’m here to tell you that my recipe and method for rib eye (and filet mignon too) in the air fryer is so much better. We talked about this at dinner and for the money we spent on steaks, well it was a bit disappointing. We were expecting something incredible. But, the fact that my recipe is better, I mean seriously better well, that is awesome! The air fryer I use is the best I have found.
My Air Fryer Rib Eye Steak with Blue Cheese Butter is going to be one of the best things to cross your lips! Make sure to have my most fabulous Blue Cheese Butter Steak Topper recipe ready to go.
Whether you want a medium rare or just a medium cooked steak, my method will work. My recipe method is based on thickness of meat, not weight. If you have a 16 ounce steak or an 8 ounce steak, or anything in between, this method will work.

Ingredients to Perfect Air Fryer Rib Eye Steak.

What is a Rib Eye Steak?
- It is the center portion of the rib section of the cow.
- A rib eye steak is typically served without a bone.
- Because of the marbling and fat, this particular cut is best cooked hot and fast.
Besides roast prime rib, Delmonico steak was my favorite cut of steak. A Delmonico steak is a bone in rib eye steak, which got its name from a restaurant in New York. This apparently is the reason that many of my friends and acquaintances were not familiar with a Delmonico steak. My parents both were born and grew up in New York, so for me, it was what we called bone in rib eye steaks.
Freshly ground pepper makes a nice crust on the steak.
This electric pepper mill is so handy to use. Just turn it over and it automatically grinds the pepper.
Tips and Tricks for Air Fryer Rib Eye Steak
- When cooking steaks in an air fryer, oven or on the grill, it is always best to let steaks sit out for at least 15 minutes to come to room temperature.
- For a bit of smokey taste, try using smoked salt.
- For optimal flavor and results, don’t trim the steaks before cooking. The fat and grizzle add tons of flavor while to the steaks as they are cooking in the air fryer.
- This recipe works with New York Strip and Filet Mignon too!
Press the seasonings into the rib eyes.
Rib eye steaks need no steak sauce, as they are highly flavorful.

Whether you use a charcoal grill, stove top, oven, air fryer or Instant Pot DUO Plus, Ninja Foodi or Pressure Cooker, I’ve got you covered for the best cooking methods and results.
Why Preheat the Air Fryer?
Rib eye steaks cook best at using a high heat and for a short time.
Preheating the air fryer means the steak will immediately sear in the juices and start cooking the steak evenly.
The steak should be pink, top to bottom with just the surface area browned..
If you start with a cold air fryer, the steak begins cooking through to the middle and won’t form a nice crust on the outside. The entire inside of the steak won’t be an even color, like you see in the finished photos.
A nice Caesar salad is a great way to start a steak dinner.
What Side Dishes Go with Rib Eye Steak?
- Pressure Cooker Mashed Potatoes (Instant Pot)
- Pressure Cooker Southern Style Green Beans
- Pressure Cooker Cauliflower Souffle
The Blue Cheese Butter will melt and form sauce on the rib eye steak.
I can’t wait for you to try my Air Fryer Rib Eye Steak with Blue Cheese Topper. A steak like this costs in excess of $65 at a good restaurant.

I have underestimated the awesomeness of my air fryer in the past, fried wings, omg. Today I was blown away even more. The steak cooking directions are almost perfect! I had a 2 inch ribeye so I did 4 minutes on the frip and an extra 1 minute rest in the fryer and my steak was better then 95% of steaks I’ve had. Only better steak I’ve had is charcoal grilled steaks because I love that taste. I’m from Nebraska and I eat a lot of steak and don’t comment on stuff often but this was worth my time. I am impressed!
Jill Selkowitz says
Thank you so much, Jordan. You sound just like me. On the grill is the best, but using the air fryer with this method is a very close second. I don’t know if you saw my post the other day, but we went to a very expensive steak house with some friends. Our rib eye steaks were $67 and $80 (one had a crab cake on top) and I can tell you the steaks cooked at home in my air fryer are so much better. My husband said the same thing. We were not impressed at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. One other thing, make sure to saute onions with garlic, butter and sherry. Mushrooms too. Enjoy. Jill

John Smith says
I have several questions.
1) Total time stated was 15 minutes. Does that mean 5 of that minutes are preheating time?
2) if I used 1 cut of ribeye instead of 2, do I need to change any of the settings? (Time or Temperature) I’m going for a medium.
Look forward to frying these.
Jill Selkowitz says
Hi John, yes, that should be good enough for total time. No changes for making just one steak. For a less rare steak, let the steak sit in the air fryer for several minutes. You don’t want to cook it longer as you want the medium color to be the entire inside of the steak. JIll
John Smith says
Steak turned out perfect. I was wondering though if this recipe will work out for a wagyu ribeye cut.
Jill Selkowitz says
That is less fatty, so keep your eye on it as it may cook a bit faster. Jill
Louise Black says
Was looking for an airfryer recipe on how to cook a ribeye steak. Found your site, saw the recipe, and decided to try your recipe. Followed your instructions, ribeyes turned out fantastic! Hubby said they were good. Your timing for rare was perfect. I used my Paula Deen 8.5. and it cooks good.
Jill Selkowitz says
Wonderful, I am glad you enjoyed your steaks. Jill
Damon Williams says

Hazel says
This was AMAZING! I bought an air fryer oven yesterday. I would normally use my grill for steak but it was overdue for a cleaning and I had choice top sirloin that had to be cooked today. I made the blue cheese butter and it was so easy and beyond delicious! I had 2 large russet potatoes in bottom rack that had been in there 45 minutes prior to the steaks going on top rack. I ended up cooking 4 minutes per side then leaving in oven for 2, then topping with pats of blue cheese butter!!! My hubby was so happy he didn’t have to man the grill in the rain! Thank you for sharing!!!!
Hazel says
Oh PS they came out perfect medium rare just like we love!!!!
Jill Selkowitz says
Thank you, Hazel. I am thrilled you enjoyed your steaks and topping. Jill
MMHall says
Looks fabulous! Do you use the insert basket with these steaks or just place in the Air Fryer?
Jill says
Always use the basket for everything, other than if you are making a cake with your own pan, but if it fits in the basket, best to use the basket. Jill
Robyn says
You weren’t kidding! I made porter house steaks tonight, following your directions, and they were the best medium rare steaks ever! Perfect!
Jill says
I am so glad you enjoyed your steaks, Robyn. Thank you. Jill
Robyn says
This is the perfect method for steaks! So Good!
Jill says
Thanks, Robin. Jill
Virginia says
I just made this along with the Blue Cheese Butter. Both were FABULOUS. The outside of the steak had a perfect crust. This will be a new family favorite. I may need a bigger air fryer.
Jill says
Thank you, Virginia. I am so glad you enjoyed this recipe. Definitely a nice presentation and delicious meal. Jill
Ron Danshire says
While this was good. I am of the belief that this is an excellent recipe during the non grill winter months. I rate it a 7 out of ten. This is not an equal recipe (in the winter months) to searing in a cast iron pan then finish it off in the oven. Will it do it again. Yes – but reluctantly.
Marla says
I love cooking steak in the air fryer! It always comes out juicy and tender…when using the BBQ is out of the question or I’m too busy to pay attention to the bbq, the steaks go right in the air fryer! Huge time saver!
Brenda says
Hi
I was looking for the temp to cook the steaks, or do I just use the steak pre-set?
Thanks!
Frank says
Hi, Can you do this in a air fryer oven?
Jill says
Yes. Jill
Mary Jona says
Thank you so much for this recipe!!!!!!! I made it tonight and it was soooooo good!
Jill says
Mary, I am so glad you enjoyed this recipe!!! Jill
Adrienne says
This looks divinely tasty. One quick question though. Can I follow this same recipe with filet mignon that’s approximately the same height as a ribeye?
Jill says
Yes, Adrienne, this will work for any steak. There is a different method for tri-tip and other cuts, which are similar. There is a tri-tip recipe on the blog already for the other method. Jill
